Chocolate Brownie Fudge Cake

Sift together in a large bowl:
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar

In a saucepan combine:
1 square (cube) butter
½ cup shortening
4 Tablespoons cocoa
1 cup cold water

Bring to boil, stirring constantly.
Cool for 3 minutes.
Pour over flour mixture and mix well.

Add:
1 cup buttermilk (or 3 Tablespoons lemon juice and enough milk to make 1 cup
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 large eggs, beaten
Mix well.

Add ½ cup chopped nuts.

Pour into greased and floured pan.
Bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees.


Frosting For Chocolate Brownie Fudge Cake

1 square butter
4 Tablespoons cocoa
5 Tablespoons milk

Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat, do not allow to cool.

Add:
1 pound powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts

Mix and spread on cooled cake.
